Cinema 4D Compatibility 2024.4.0 and above 2025.0.0 and above 2026.0.0 and above Enhancements Faster GPU pixel rendering: GPU rendering is now more efficient, with improvements ranging between 1–20% depending on the scene. (ARNOLD-17861, ARNOLD-17866, ARNOLD-17903, ARNOLD-17943) GPU performance improvement graphs showing 1–20% gains across scenes Faster time to first pixel on GPU: Building on the improvements in the previous Arnold release, GPU scene update is now much faster, typically 1–4x faster than in Arnold 7.5.2. (ARNOLD-17907, ARNOLD-17966) Scene 7.5.2 GPU scene update 7.5.3 GPU scene update Speedup Beeple 3081 ms 790 ms 3.90x Walrus 107 ms 47 ms 2.27x ALab 1910 ms 850 ms 2.25x Sophie 2608 ms 2601 ms 1.00x Faster interactive polygon mesh editing on CPU and GPU: Modifying a polymesh during IPR now updates incrementally instead of fully rebuilding the mesh. Typical vertex and deformation edits on dense meshes update ~2–2.5x faster. For example, toggling smoothing on a 200k-face Catmull-Clark mesh drops from ~6.5 ms to ~1.4 ms per update. (ARNOLD-17628) Lightweight instancing with the instancer node: Arnold now renders instances through a lightweight instancing system for any plugin that uses an Arnold instancer node, extending the benefits previously available only through USD. Instancing is more memory efficient and time to first pixel is faster, because the scene is quicker to initialize. Dense instanced scenes, such as scattered vegetation, crowds, and particle duplicates, now render faster and use less memory across all plugins. (ARNOLD-17947) BSDF nodes for stylized rendering: The new diffuse, fuzz, and specular BSDF nodes evaluate individual lighting responses independently. Connect them to a shader_to_rgba node to more easily build non-photorealistic (NPR) looks. (ARNOLD-17782) Direct outputs rendering: A new direct outputs mode lets you obtain AOVs directly, skipping the regular CPU-based imagers and drivers infrastructure, for much faster feedback while navigating and editing. Direct outputs rendering mode also has some IPR optimizations not yet exposed in regular Arnold IPR and is currently available on GPU only. You can enable this mode with the options.direct_outputs boolean parameter. The new mode doesn't support regular drivers and outputs must be obtained through AiGetRenderOutput() calls (see API section below). (ARNOLD-17608) Smaller, more efficient Cryptomatte manifests: Cryptomatte manifests no longer include entries for matte holdout objects and objects that are invisible to the camera. This can significantly reduce the size of the manifest metadata embedded in EXR files, or saved in the sidecar manifests. In production scenes, it was possible to accumulate several megabytes of unusable manifest data, which slowed down downstream tools such as Nuke. (ARNOLD-17983) Oriented curves: Oriented curve mode is now supported when rendering Spline objects. This mode allows the curve to face in a given direction at each point, that can be the normal direction, camera or a user specified target object. (C4DTOA-3517) OptiX denoiser: The OptiX denoiser now produces higher-quality denoising results. (ARNOLD-12188) Optix Denoiser 7.5.2 Optix Denoiser 7.5.3 7.5.2 7.5.3 Higher-quality denoising with noice: The Noice denoiser now gives better results when denoising objects seen through transparent surfaces like glass and in reflective surfaces such as mirrors. To take advantage of this change, Noice requires denoise_albedo_noisy and its variance AOV as inputs. This is the same Albedo AOV used by the OIDN and OptiX denoisers. (ARNOLD-10252) noice 7.5.2 7.5.3 7.5.2 7.5.3 Render multiple frames with kick: The -frame argument now supports a semicolon-separated list of frames and ranges when you kick a USD file. A range is written start-end and may take an optional step after a comma (start-end,step). For example, -frame 1;3;10-22 renders frames 1, 3, and 10 through 22, while -frame 1-100,2 renders every second frame from 1 to 100. The two can be combined: -frame 1-10,2;15. (ARNOLD-9867) UI grouping metadata added to the options node: Tools like kick can now group related parameters for improved help. For example, kick -info options now lists the options node parameters under headings such as Sampling, System, and Diagnostics. (ARNOLD-15626) Motion range on matrix_interpolate: The matrix_interpolate node now supports motion_start and motion_end parameters. (ARNOLD-17964) Update Autodesk Desktop Licensing: Arnold now includes Autodesk Desktop Licensing v16.3.1.15415. See the release notes for more information on this release. (ARNOLD-17435) Update Intel Open Image Denoise (OIDN) to version 2.5.0: The Intel Open Image Denoise (OIDN) was updated from 2.4.1 to 2.5.0. For the list of changes, see the OIDN release notes. (ARNOLD-17917) Flow Render Enhancements Turntable render: You can now render turntable animations on the Flow Render cloud service, providing a 360-degree view of your model, without needing to manually set up cameras or lighting in your DCC. (ARNOLD-17894) Thanks to Alex Mateo for the use of his Gabi scene. Texture baking: Flow Render now supports texture baking, which lets you permanently capture lighting and shading detail into an image file, improving performance in real-time or downstream rendering. (ARNOLD-17763) Flow Render Texture Baking Multi-frame rendering: The new Frames Per Task setting lets you group multiple frames into a single task when submitting a render job. This reduces the overhead of cloud worker startup and shutdown time, especially useful for long sequences or fast-rendering scenes. (ARNOLD-17676) Improved job submission performance: Job submission of asset-heavy scenes is now much faster. Verifying the upload status of thousands of assets is now reduced from minutes to seconds. (ARNOLD-17637) Increased worker timeout: Cloud rendering jobs can now run for up to 24 hours, supporting longer and more complex renders. (ARNOLD-17948) USD Enhancements Author upAxis and meterUnit metadata in the writer (usd#2698) Add turntable command-line tool that generates turntable scenes from a USD asset (usd#2625) Support UV RenderVars (usd#1286) Support double-precision primvars (usd#2687) Support mesh normals updates interactively (usd#2691) API Changes Direct outputs API: DCC plugins can now build a fast interactive viewport on top of the new direct outputs GPU rendering mode. Set the direct_outputs option on the options node to render at a reduced internal resolution and upscale to the final resolution for faster feedback. During the viewport render loop the render update callback is now invoked with the new AI_RENDER_UPDATE_VIEWPORT update type on each viewport update. This signals that fresh output is ready to display. Each AOV lives on the GPU. Use the new AiGetRenderOutput() function to copy an AOV into a caller-provided destination. The destination type is selected by AtGetRenderOutputHandleType: OPENGL copies directly into a GL texture via CUDA-GL interop, and CPU copies into a host buffer. See ai_render.h for the interface. The feature is currently available for GPU rendering only. (ARNOLD-17608) Node versioning API: Arnold now provides an API for registering and resolving versioned node entries, letting plugins share a logical node_family across multiple node_version variants and look them up without hardcoding raw node names. The API is available in both C and Python, and exposes AiNodeEntryGetVersion(), AiNodeEntryLookUpVersion(), AiNodeEntryLookUpLatestVersion(), AiNodeEntryGetFamilyVersions(), and AiNodeEntryGetVersionFamilyIterator().
